Hi, I'm Alicia Armando and welcome to Back to Basics. In this series, we are creating seasonal services to upgrade your menu and learn how those extra special touches set your salon and your services. Apart from the rest, offering something different can not only give your clients something to look forward to, but also your staff. It gets boring doing the same services over and over. So what better reason to change up your menu and your salon decor than with a themed Manny Petty for each season? In this episode, we're gonna explore a summer service. This is a great time to get your client's vacation ready. It's a perfect time to introduce a treat or a cocktail with your service and retail at home tanning products. This is the season for fun, so get out your globe unicorn floaties and get your clients and the summer spirit. A coconut milk bath is a great way to start your summer service. Coconut milk houses high levels of vitamin C, which maintains the skin's flexibility, promotes a elasticity and aids in the growth of healthy skin cells. Adding a little shredded coconut can add the finishing touch. After your cuticle work and callister removal, you'll be ready to move on to the script. Okay, so now we are looking at our summer beach theme, and I just love the idea of all of these, um, yummy summer items that just really make me feel like I wanna go to the beach. I wanna have a vacation. So we have this shredded coconut. We have, um, some oats, which are so soothing. And then of course we did a brown sugar for our sugar scrub. Um, we've got some coconut milk here and of course some honey. And we are going to make a nice exfoliating scrub. And we're gonna start with oatmeal, which boosts collagen production. And it is just great for the complexion. It cleanses your pores. We're gonna add some sh brown sugar to this, and this brown sugar is gonna act as an exfoliant. You have a little bit of exfoliant with this oatmeal, but then you're gonna have a great exfoliant with this sugar as well. And the sugar stays like a light exfoliant. If you want something a little more heavy, if you've got a little more dry skin, um, you might wanna switch this to salt. You can do that too. I guess it just depends on your clients, but I know oatmeal, brown sugar, it just sounds yummy too. When we start adding our liquids, everything's gonna kind of all be blended together. So I'm gonna add some coconut milk to this as well. And this coconut milk also is great for the complexion. It cleans the pores, it soothes the skin. It's great for inflammation. This is gonna be a really nice mixture into this, and it's gonna create, again, more of a mask even than a scrub. So you're gonna kind of get a little bit of both. And I love when scrubs kind of coat the skin and not just abrasive against the skin, because then it really feels amazing as they're, you're kind of massaging it up the leg or on the arm. Um, you get that really nice feel and, and slip with this. So as you can see, it's starting to become that thick oatmeal consistency, which is what we want, because you don't want it to drip if you can avoid it. You just wanna give it a nice consistency so that it massages in. And really that's what you're looking for when you're building any homemade scrub is you're just looking for some really great ingredients that are good for the skin, good for the body and soul, and also just, you know, has great sense, some natural ingredients that you can mix right in front of your clients because that really kind of adds a little bit more to, um, what's going on. So now I'm gonna use honey and honey is a century old ingredient that is good for just about anything. And this is just a really great ingredient for thousands of years. It has healed bodies inside and out. It's great for the skin, it's great for the complexion. They call it a magic potion. So this is definitely something that you wanna incorporate into any, um, manicure, pedicure, scrub mask, anything you can to get it on the skin. And now you can see that really beautiful consistency. We also have, um, a little bit of olive oil here, and that's gonna allow that slip. And since we already have that nice consistency, you don't wanna add too much, but what that does is it just gives you a little bit of slip to move it around a little easier so it's not so sticky. It also adds, of course, vitamin A, e C, um, it's great for the skin. It deeply moisturizes. There's so many great things inside this little exfoliant we're making. And just for fun, I'm gonna add some coconut flakes, and that's because with our beach theme and our coconut theme, you know, adding that little bit of extra in there just gets a little bit of extra, there's nothing wrong with some extra, and it also, um, just looks really nice and they're gonna be like, wow, I get coconut in there too. So you just kind of put that on top. We're gonna mix that in as well. And again, that little bit of exfoliant, it's gonna go a long way. So now we have this really nice, beautiful scrub that is gonna like dual as a mass. So I would go ahead and rub this into the legs or the hands and the arms, and actually even let it sit there. It's, there's nothing wrong with wrapping it in a little surround wrap and just kind of putting some heat on it and having it become not just a scrub, but a mask also. So let's go put this on our client. So now that we've created this wonderful oatmeal scrub, this also because it's so rich and thick and it has all of that amazing coconut milk in it, this is gonna make a great scrub and a mask. So I'm gonna show you a little bit different way of doing this. This is actually like a paraffin bag and it works great on the leg. And so what you can do to kind of make this a little bit different, and you can actually add your scrub or your mask, and especially because since this is a homemade mask, it really didn't cost very much. So you can actually use quite a bit. Sometimes you spend a lot of money on masks and you're like, Ooh, I just wanna put a little bit on there. But with this, we can actually kind of use a lot. So we can put that in this bag, and you can start right where the mask needs it the most. And you can work that all into those callous areas. So once you get the bag onto, you'll notice that there's not any mess, and you actually get to really massage this into the skin and especially down in the callous areas. And you can kind of work that product all up in here. So you're able to massage all of these wonderful ingredients in the coconut milk and also the oatmeal and really detoxifying the skin. You're pressing it in the bag's, keeping all the product nice and warm. It's keeping the heat from her body right into the bag. So everything stays nice and warm. And then you can just tie it off, you can add a little booty, or you can take a nice hot towel and wrap her foot so we can lock that heat in and keep everything nice and warm. And then again, anytime you put a hot wet towel over any treatment, you wanna go ahead and cover that with a dry towel, and that locks that steam in, and that locks that heat in and it makes everything stay nice and warm. You wanna lock that down so it stays nice and warm for her. And then you can put her gently to sleep and then you'll go to the next foot. After we've let our mask soak in, we used it was that oatmeal scrub, so it was kind of like a scrub and a mask all in one. I went ahead and put that hot towel on there and let that soak in. So now I'm gonna remove the dry towel one at a time. Open that up. And then now this one's nice and wet, so we're gonna open that and it's still a little bit warm and we're able to gently just pull this off. And as you work the product down, you're gonna be able to get most of the product off. But the great part about this is that there's no mess, there's no fussing. You can actually get a really nice massage on the way off just as much as the way you put it on. So again, another extra special treatment in this upgraded spa pedicure. And now you're gonna take that same warm towel and just wrap it and clean. So that was a mess free way to add a scrub or a mass to your client while still maintaining those luxurious touches. You can also see how using some of Mother nature's ingredients can elevate your service. Mixing a custom scrub in front of your clients while explaining the immediate benefits and results they're experiencing provides real value to your seasonal service. And sometimes those added benefits can come from something as simple as a cocoa butter massage to finish off your service. So join me next time as we get ready for Autumn.
