Multi-use implement

What it is: Also known as reusable implements; these tools are generally stainless steel and must be properly cleaned and disinfected between clients.

How it is used: Each implement has a specific job during the nail service; these include tip cutters (for cutting artificial nail tips), nail nippers for nipping away hangnails, stork scissors for cutting fiberglass mesh, orangewood sticks for cleaning around the nails, cuticle pusher for gently pushing back the proximal nail fold.

How to disinfect: After each client, sanitize implements by washing in hot soapy water and scrubbing with a nylon brush. Dry with a clean towel. Next submerge in disinfectant for at least 10 minutes. Then dry and store. If the tools have come into contact with any bodily fluids, then sterilise them in an appropriate steriliser.

Nail files and buffers (emery boards) require brushing off the debris, washing in soapy water and spraying with appropriate disinfectant. Ideally you will have a set that is allocated to each client, so there is no cross. contamination.
