Kayley Cairns is a nail artist and educator from Essex, UK. Beginning her career in 2009, Kayley has since gone on to win a host of top industry awards including Nail Professional of the Year – Professional Beauty, BABTAC Nail Technician of the Year, 4 x Scratch Stars Awards, 2 x Nailympia Art Winner of Winners trophies and Nailympia UK Top Tech alongside a host of other UK and international competition wins. Having previously been a CND educator for five years, Kayley is now a lead educator for the Hazel Dixon Nail Artist academy. Whilst having a passion for nail art, Kayley holds a strong belief in the power of education to change lives and currently focuses on her continued professional development as an educator with a mission of empowering others to achieve their goals.

Tip Overlay

John Hauk demonstrates the steps to creating a traditional pink & white nail using the liquid & powder acrylic system. With clear & pink powders and French white nail tips, the tip & overlay technique of enhancement shines. John preps the nail plate with a 180-grit buffer and sizes the nail tip for a perfect, snug fit. Application of the clear bead onto the free edge, followed by the pink bead for the nail plate is showcased, with tips for creating that perfect c-curve and filing hints and tips for creating a perfect salon enhancement.

With her roots lying in South Africa, in 2004 Shelley began her nail adventure at the Dream Nail Academy in Paarl, where she attended intensive training to become an All Round Nail Technician in a small group of four people. “I’m incredibly grateful to Sheila, the educator there, for her style of teaching, as she taught me the profession well. “Back in the Netherlands I combined my nail profession with my hairdressing career and in 2009 I opened my own nail salon. In 2018, I was one of the nominees for Nail Talent of the Year where I reached second place. I was so surprised and proud. I then started training for my first national competition and reached 3rd place, this was when my competition fever struck. In the years that followed, I’ve participated in many competitions, nationally and internationally. I’ve always won prizes so far, and can proudly say that I’m a national and international champion. I’m an educator for the LoveNess nail brand, whish I teach with passion, as I love to share my knowledge and watch students’ grow. Education is key to success in this industry.”

Since back-fills are one of the most performed services in the salon, John Hauk provides a clear and straightforward tour of the process. John performs the procedure on a client with 3-5 weeks of growth on an acrylic (liquid & powder) sculptured nail. Guiding through the steps of carefully filing away the existing product to prepare the nail for a new application. The tip & overlay service has reached its 3-5-week milestone, and at this point the growth is noticeable enough to see through the nail, revealing the natural nail in the space between the pink application and the white tip. In this demonstration, John Hauk showcases the meticulous process of removing and refining the nail using an efile. This technique enables the artit to create a fresh smile line. This service offers the advantage of renewing the nails without the need for complete product removal or the application of a new nail tip.

A nail professional for over 22 years, Emese specializes in sculptured pink & white acrylic nails, which she’s competed in since 1999. Trained by some of the best competitors the nail world has seen, including Tom Holcomb, Alisha Rimando, Tom Bachik & Trang Nguyen, Emese has accumulated over 120 trophies to her name. Moving to the USA in 2016, Emese opened a nail salon on Sunset Strip in LA & founded the nail product brand, EDKO Nail Systems, with nail expert Frederic Edange. Having had covers on three editions of the USA’s Nailpro magazine, Emese judges for Nailympia & wears the titles Champion in Monaco, Nailpro Cup USA 2018, four times European Champion in Munich & 10 times Hungarian Champion Tom Holcomb Cup winner.
