The crystal and sequined layered Christian Dior ball gown circa 1949 inspired Fritzke to infuse jewels in her nail artistry to offer regal elegance with a touch of glamour for this and the hand stitched Victorian-inspired ruffled ball gown by Charles Frederick Worth circa 1887. Both ball gowns provide a rich tapestry of inspiration for nail artists to explore and reinterpret.
The textured floral fabric on the Evening ensemble from Ninca Ricci, circa 1958 evoked a multitude of nail art mediums for Alisha Rimando. “Texture always inspires me,” Rimando explains, “I love to layer techniques. For this look I started with a watercolor effect using blooming gel, and embossed circles onto the nail using acrylic. Between layers I added hand-painted flowers and finished the nails with matte and gloss details to add even more depth and texture to the layers.”

Most French enhancement techniques teach the tech to apply white at the free-edge and create the smile line. Then the pink is added to the nail plate and the two are connected. In a reverse application, you add the pink to the nail bed and create a reverse smile line. Some let this dry and file it clean and smooth before adding a form and the white extension. The benefit to this technique is being able to push the white directly against the pink to create a clean line. This technique was originally created for applying cover pink powders. It can also be beneficial when sculpting gel.

And speaking of the current nail trends in Canada, Giselle reveals, “The most popular nail trends right now are cat eyes (velvet nails), airbrush (aura nails), and minimalist styles, which are all currently dominating the Canadian nail industry,” she smiles.

With her roots lying in South Africa, in 2004 Shelley began her nail adventure at the Dream Nail Academy in Paarl, where she attended intensive training to become an All Round Nail Technician in a small group of four people. “I’m incredibly grateful to Sheila, the educator there, for her style of teaching, as she taught me the profession well. “Back in the Netherlands I combined my nail profession with my hairdressing career and in 2009 I opened my own nail salon. In 2018, I was one of the nominees for Nail Talent of the Year where I reached second place. I was so surprised and proud. I then started training for my first national competition and reached 3rd place, this was when my competition fever struck. In the years that followed, I’ve participated in many competitions, nationally and internationally. I’ve always won prizes so far, and can proudly say that I’m a national and international champion. Working as a nail professional since 2009, Dafne Fernández, known for both her nail sculpture, structure and art skills, is the founder and owner of Stanzy Nails & Beauty, Botica Puré, Mano Santa Nail Art and the director of the Stanzy Academy in Mexico City. Dafne became globally renowned after taking the role of global educator for Artistic Nail Design from 2012-2018. A champion tech, Dafne has won accolades in Orlando, Vegas, Pasadena and at the first Nailympia Canada in 2019. Dafne is an international judge, who has educated in Japan, the USA, China, Turkey, The Netherlands, the UK, Russia, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, New Zealand, Australia and Greece. She’s also the host of Nailympia Mexico and the forthcoming Nailympia Brazil.
“I wanted to host Nailympia in my region because I believe that competitions are necessary in order to build and grow as a nail professional. This activity sets high standards and challenges that a competitor must work through in order to participate.
